TV Production Files For Smart Phones,
PDAs, and BlackBerry-Type Displays
The TV production files on this site have been upgraded so they can be viewed on smart phones, PDAs, and BlackBerry-type devices.
In most cases you should be able to view the modules directly from the index just as you would with your computer browser. Try this approach first.
If you find this is not satisfactory, try this TV Production Index.
For some cell phones free programs such as Opera Mini™ (discussed below) will work best.
Because both of these site designations (URLs) require a bit of typing -- sometimes not easy on a mobile device -- we recommend saving the one you use under a shortcut such as "favorites."
With either of the "mini screen" versions elements such as the crossword puzzles and some large illustrations with text will not be satisfactorily rendered.
These mini screen approaches should only be used when you are unable to view the pages on a regular computer screen.
- On the other hand, the mobile files will be available wherever you have cell phone service -- which (according to the commercials, at least) -- is just about anywhere.
Wireless PDAs, such as Palm's TX (pictured above), or some cell phones such as the iPhone have built-in browsers. There are at least two browser programs designed for cell phones: Opera Mini (discussed below) and Mozilla's Minimo program. There are forums on the sites that provide additional information, in case you should need it.
Both programs (as of this writing) are free, but you must have a phone capable of running Java mobile applications through an Internet link. Most WAP-enabled phones will work. Depending in your plan, your telephone company may charge you for Internet downloads.
Opera mini can be downloaded here. This program is free and can be used on most any recent cell phone.
Opera Mobile is a more sophisticated program, but it costs $24. Here's a list of supported phones for the Opera Mobile program. More information is available here or from the general Opera web site.
Note that many of today's cell phones and hand-held devices can access the Internet without a special program. .
