Expenses Hidden In College Tuition

Although you may prefer to concentrate on academics in college rather than the school's intercollegiate sports program, at many colleges a large part of tuition money goes toward funding coaches, athletic scholarships, and the general sports related expenses.

Time magazine (March 25, 2013) gives the example of Miami University in Oxford Ohio where $950 of a students $1,796 annual fee, or about 50%, goes toward the school's sports program -- even for students who have no interest in the sports programs.

>>Most students assume that in addition to taxes their ever-rising college fees are necessary to fund college academics, and not such things as a bevy of coaches, which in some cases pull down bigger salaries than the presidents of their colleges.
