Z-axis The front-to-back dimension a data chart. Usually contains values for data points.

zebra stripes Black lines superimposed over specific areas of an image in the viewfinders of some cameras used as an aid in making video level adjustments.

zoom lens A lens with a continuously variable focal length and angle of acceptance.

zoom ratio Numbers indicating zoom range for a lens. The methmatetical ratio for a zoom lens derived by dividing its shortest focal length into its longest focal length.

zooming The process of varying the focal length and, therefore, the angle of view of a zoom lens.
